Head on over to my Information Technology site to read a post on a new scam making the rounds… the eBay Vehicle Protection scam. I’ve just posted some pictures taken with a my new Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. It certainly is nice and sharp! Some people say the bokeh is a bit harsh, but I don’t mind it. Anyway, no further comments… on with the pictures! I have been using my Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-In-One for close to a year now. I am on my third black ink replacement and my fifth color replacement. I do enjoy the quality of the prints, and I’m also quite pleased that the ink has a sealer to extend the life of the prints. However, I do think that Kodak could be a little more forthcoming with the claims regarding the number of prints. After speaking with the someone on Kodak’s support line, I finally managed to get a count of about 50-60 4×6 color prints at normal quality setting. Funny thing is, when you slide in the 4×6 paper tray the quality is automatically set to the best. Perhaps that is why I am getting more like 35 color prints between fills. I have read online that you can increase the number of prints produced by purchasing more expensive Kodak paper for printing. Apparently the back of the paper is bar-coded so the printer can determine the quality and adjust ink levels accordingly. I’ll have to test that claim. As I stated, I’m on my fifth color cartridge… and I’m already replacing the printhead. This is a bit frustrating when you consider this I’ve only done about 100 prints with this printer. Overall, I’ve been impressed with the print quality, not so much with the print components. However, Kodak support is being nice enough to ship out a new print head free of charge. I’ll report back after the new part is installed.
Still trying to update the site! I’ve been keeping pretty busy cleaning since the wind and hail storm that hit August 1st. This storm hit the town only 20 minutes before Big Valley got hit. This video gives you a pretty good idea of the power of the storm.
I haven’t been keeping up on my posting lately… a lot of things on the go. I am still working toward my fitness goal, but an re-injury of my lower back and a nasty cold have hampered that a bit. Still, a loss of 20 lbs is encouraging! I’ve also started learning a lot more about digital photography and workflow. I was able to secure a Canon Rebel 300D along with an Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens and Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 lens. Right now I’m focusing (pun intended) on wildlife photography, but I’m also experimenting with high dynamic range (HDR) for landscapes. All will be posted when I have a little more time. Now that I have several nice photos of Jasper, including some head-butting mountain sheep, I have been trying to set up a good gallery. That’s why the gallery is looking a bit goofed up right now. That’s all I have time for now… |
